Working visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General to the Parliament of Romania, 16 March 2026, Bucharest, Romania
On 16 March 2026, on the sidelines of the meetings of the PABSEC Committee on Legal Affairs and International Cooperation and the PABSEC Committee on Economic Policy and Development, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mircea Abrudean, President of the Senate of Romania, H.E. Mr. Mihai Coteț, Vice-President of the Senate of Romania, and Ms. Silvia Mihalcea, Secretary of the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania.
During the meeting, the Secretary General expressed his profound appreciation to the leadership of the Senate of Romania for the excellent organization and high-level hosting of the PABSEC Committee meetings. He underlined the valuable and consistent contribution of the Romanian Parliament to the activities of PABSEC, emphasizing its constructive role in advancing the objectives of the Assembly. Mr. Hajiyev also briefed the Romanian side on the preparations for the forthcoming 67th Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Georgia in June 2026.
The President of the Senate reaffirmed the commitment of the Romanian Parliament and the Romanian delegation to continue supporting the activities and initiatives of PABSEC. The parties underlined the importance of the Assembly as an essential parliamentary platform for promoting dialogue, stability and enhanced regional cooperation. They also discussed the complex situation in the region and prospects for strengthening multilateral cooperation.
During his visit, Mr. Hajiyev also held a meeting with H.E. Sorin Grindeanu, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania. The Secretary General expressed his appreciation for the active participation of the Romanian Parliament in the work of PABSEC and highlighted the importance of continued engagement in advancing the Assembly’s initiatives aimed at promoting cooperation and dialogue. The President of the Chamber of Deputies reaffirmed his support to the Assembly’s activities and emphasized the significance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the Organization.
The meeting was also attended by Ms. Valentina Cobzareanu, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, and Ms. Pavlina Lozanova, Advisor to the Secretary General – Press Secretary.
