Working Visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to the Parliament of Georgia, Tbilisi, 29-31 May 2023
On 29-31 May 2023, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General paid a working visit to the Parliament of Georgia and met with its leadership.
During the meeting with Mr. Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the Parliament of Georgia, for supporting the activities of the Parliamentary Assembly, informed the Chairman about the results of the Summit of the Speakers of the PABSEC Parliaments and of the 61st PABSEC General Assembly, organised in Ankara, on 4-5 May 2023, and also discussed the preparation of the upcoming meetings of the Committees of the Assembly.
Mr. Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, expressed an interest in strengthening the cooperation with the PABSEC and assured that the Parliament of Georgia and the PABSEC Georgian delegation will bring their contribution to the activities of the Assembly. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Vice-Chairman of the PABSEC Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee, member of the PABSEC Georgian delegation.
On behalf of the PABSEC President, the PABSEC Secretary General awarded the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, with the PABSEC Honorary Medal, for his special contribution to the development of interparliamentary relations in the Black Sea Region. Mr. Shalva Papuashvili thanked the Secretary General for appreciating his activities and expressed the readiness to further develop cooperation with the Assembly.
During the meeting with Mr. Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, informed about the outcomes of the Summit of the Speakers of the PABSEC Parliaments and of the 61st PABSEC General Assembly, which took place in May 2023, in Ankara. At the meeting was discussed the importance of strengthening the cooperation in the Black Sea region, especially given the complicated situation in this area. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Vice-Chairman of the PABSEC Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee, member of the PABSEC Georgian delegation.
During the meeting with Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, Vice-Chairman of the PABSEC Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee, member of the PABSEC Georgian delegation, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, discussed about the preparations for the autumn meetings of the PABSEC Committees and of the General Assembly, under the PABSEC Ukrainian Presidency. It was stressed that constructive cooperation among the delegations, in the spirit of the mutual understanding and the search for mutually acceptable compromises, is needed.
During the meeting with the Academician-Secretary of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Mr. Ramaz Khurodze, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, focused on the ways of integrating science in the Black Sea Region and the projects that could be implemented, by joint efforts, for its development. It was noted that the organisation of joint events will help determine ways to combine the efforts of the scientists, for the implementation of regional projects.
