The PABSEC Participation in the Special Session of the Milli Majlis Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Baku, 16 May 2023
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the Special Session of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, which took place in Baku, on 16 May 2023.
The Session was attended by speakers of parliaments of 12 countries, deputy speakers of parliaments of 15 countries, representatives of international organizations, and the diplomatic corps.
At the opening of the Session, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted that the life Heydar Aliyev passed became a criterion of devotion to his native land and people. The speakers and vice-speakers of parliaments, chairmen of the committees of the Milli Majlis, and heads of international organizations spoke at the session and noted that thanks to the high leadership qualities and vision of Heydar Aliyev, modern Azerbaijan has managed to strengthen the independent statehood and enhanced the credibility on the international arena.
In his speech, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, shared with the participants his memories of the life and work of Heydar Aliyev.
On the sidelines of the Session, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Mr. Vladimir Orlic, former PABSEC President, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and evaluated the results of the Summit of the Speakers of the PABSEC Parliament and the PABSEC General Assembly held in Ankara on 4-5 May 2023.
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Mr. Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, and discussed the PABSEC plan of action for the next half of the year.
During the meeting with Ms. Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Chair of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, discussed the organizational issues of the upcoming General Assembly under the PABSEC Ukrainian Presidency.
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, also met with Mr. Mihai Popsoi, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, and discussed aspects of cooperation in the PABSEC framework.
