The PABSEC participation in the 42nd BSEC-URTA General Assembly, Baku, 27-28 October 2023
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in the 42nd General Assembly of the Union of Road Transport Associations of the BSEC Member States (BSEC-URTA), which took place on 27-28 October 2023 in Baku upon the invitation of the Azerbaijan International Road Carriers Association (ABADA).
The meeting was attended by representatives of road transport carrier associations of the BSEC Member States, the BSEC Organization and BSEC Related Bodies, as well as international transport organizations.
The 42nd General Assembly of BSEC-URTA was coincided by the 30th anniversary of the Association of International Road Carriers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In his speech at the Opening of the Meeting, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev noted the importance of road transport for transportation in the region ensuring the movement of goods and passengers with the flexibility of adapting specific transportation needs. He noted the necessity to develop and improve the road transport infrastructure and in this regard noted the importance of opening the Zangezur corridor. It was noted that road transport continues to be an important element of regional transport system, but attention must be paid to its balanced development taking into account environmental aspects.
The Assembly participants took note of the information on the activities of the associations of road transport carriers of the BSEC Member States and on the activities of the BSEC Business Council. Information was also presented on the activities and priority areas of the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
On August 28, 2023, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, as part of the official program, visited the Alat Port Free Zone and took part in the meeting with the port management.
The next BSEC-URTA General Assembly will take place in Tirana in spring of 2024.
