Participation of Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, in the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Development, Athens, 12 – 13 April 2018

Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, attended the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Development, which took place in Athens during 12-13 April 2018.

The International Conference on Sustainable Development represents the premier interdisciplinary forum for social scientists, academicians, politicians, bureaucrats, and practitioners to present the latest developments, ideas, and applications in all areas of Sustainable Development, especially in the areas of Environmental, Health, Energy, Economic, and Socio-Cultural issues. The conference brought together leading academic scientists, researchers and experts in the domain of interest from around the world. 

Key note speaker was Prof.Dr. Phoebe Koundouri on the subject “Integrating the Socio-Economic Value of Nature in Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Public Goods”. The presentations made by several high experienced participants included four main topics: Environmental, Food, and Health Sustainability, Sustainable Energy, Economic Sustainability and Socio-Cultural Sustainability. 

The special attention was given to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which were adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at theUN Summit. Over the next fifteen years, with these new Goals that universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
