Participation of Mr. Konstantinos Morfidis, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic delegation and Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, in the 25th I.A.O. General Assembly, Athens, 25 – 29 June 2018

Mr. Konstantinos Morfidis, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic delegation and Mr. Miltiadis Makrygiannis, PABSEC Deputy Secretary General, participated in the 25th Anniversary of the I.A.O. General Assembly, which took place in Athens, on 25-29 June 2018.  More than 100 MPs from twenty-five I.A.O. member states parliaments and the representatives of several interparliamentary organizations participated in this event, which was hosted by the Hellenic Parliament. The subject of the General Debate was "Parliamentary Democracy and Christian Values: 25 Years Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy".     

The opening ceremony was held on 25 June, at the Byzantine Museum of Athens and it was addressed by Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, President of the Hellenic Republic. President of the Hellenic Parliament, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Archbishop of Athens and Greece, the Vice-President of the Russian State Duma, MPs from the I.A.O. member states and representatives of the diplomatic corps participated in this event.

Addressing to the participants, Mr. Morfidis congratulated the officials of the I.A.O. on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary, which coincide with the 25th Anniversary of the PABSEC, and informed them about the PABSEC activities. Furthermore, he noted the importance of the religion, as a moral foundation of the society, and he underlined the very good relations between the two parliamentary assemblies. Mr. Morfidis also informed participants about the report and recommendation discussed and adopted by the PABSEC concerning the Role of Religion in Fight against Terrorism and Extremism.
