Participation of Mr. Igor Becic, Head of the PABSEC Serbian Delegation, in the Joint PAM-WTO High-Level Parliamentary Conference, Belgrade, 12-13 July 2018

Mr. Igor Becic, Head of the PABSEC Serbian Delegation, participated on the behalf of the PABSEC, in the Joint High-level Parliamentary Conference entitled “Investments and Trade Facilitation in the Western Balkans”, held in Belgrade, on 12-13 July 2018. This Conference was hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and co-organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The conference was addressed by Mr. Djordje Milicevic, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Pedro Roque, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Mrs. Olivera Jocic, Acting Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and Mr. Said El Hachimi, representative of the World Trade Organization.

The conference was attended by over 100 representatives of national and regional parliamentary delegations from the PAM member states, associate countries and organizations, the European Parliament and senior officials from the Government of Serbia.  In the course of the two-day conference the participants tackled specific issues relevant to South East Europe, a geopolitical area which has a high relevance for the whole Euro-Mediterranean region due to its strategic position, and the Western Balkans as a region that needs further integration in order to boost trade, sustainable development and economic growth at large. The participants also discussed the Euro-Mediterranean processes of economic and political cooperation concerning WTO and EU regulations, the results of the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference and the state-of-play of international trade, regional integration in the Western Balkans and possibilities for the additional engagement of MPs on WTO-related issues.
