Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 29 October 2025, Baku (Azerbaijan)

On 29 October 2025, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the International Parliamentary Conference dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event took place in the Plenary Hall of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and focused on the theme “Constitution as the foundation of the independence and sovereignty of states in the contemporary world.”

The conference was attended by representatives of national parliaments, international parliamentary organizations, prominent legal scholars, diplomats, and political figures. Discussions highlighted the key role of constitutional principles in safeguarding state sovereignty, ensuring democratic governance, and promoting sustainable political and socio-economic development.

In his statement, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev congratulated all people of Azerbaijan on the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the first Constitution of independent Azerbaijan and on the election of the first Parliament of the independent state. He emphasized the fundamental importance of constitutions in nation-building and state development, noting that their drafting and adoption typically involve leading political figures and distinguished legal experts.

Mr. Hajiyev also conveyed his warmest congratulations to the Turkish delegation on the occasion of the Republic Day of Türkiye, celebrated on 29 October, which commemorates the founding of the Republic in 1923.

On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Hajiyev met with the Mr. Ahmed Bin Mohamed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) and discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two institutions. The parties exchanged views on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PABSEC and GCTP, aimed at strengthening dialogue and advancing joint initiatives in the promotion of tolerance, peace, and inter-parliamentary collaboration.
