Participation of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in the BBSEA Shark Tank Event and the Festive Meeting dedicated to the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, 10-12 June 2026, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the BBSEA Shark Tank Event, held on 10 June 2026 in Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova.
The Event was organised in the framework of the World Bank’s Blueing the Black Sea Program (BBSEA), implemented jointly with the governments of Bulgaria, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Türkiye and Ukraine. The Program aims to support the creation of a shared regional framework for the sustainable management of the Black Sea.
The BBSEA Program cooperates with the Black Sea Commission (BSC) and is established under the Bucharest Convention, and the BSEC, and collaborates with the Common Maritime Agenda (CMA) for the Black Sea and the European Commission (EC).
The Event brought together entrepreneurs, environmental experts, representatives of international organisations and international investors to support innovative solutions aimed at reducing pollution and protecting the Black Sea basin. In a dynamic “Shark Tank” format, participants presented their projects, covering such key areas as circular economy, sustainable agriculture, waste management and clean technologies.
In the framework of the visit to the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the Festive Meeting on the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, held on 12 June 2026 in Chisinau.
This anniversary represented a significant milestone in the history of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and brought together distinguished representatives of the academic community, public authorities, international scientific organizations and close partners of the institution.
In his intervention, Mr. Hajiyev emphasized that science is one of the most important foundations of human progress, prosperity and national development. He underlined that, although societies celebrate many holidays, the “holiday of science” holds special significance, as science and mathematics enable humanity to understand the world and shape the future. He also noted that leading countries invest substantially in scientific research, demonstrating that prosperity depends strongly on science, knowledge and innovation.
Mr. Hajiyev also highlighted the importance of scientific institutions and human intellectual potential. He praised the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and stressed that it should continue to be developed as a vital national institution. Referring to the growing role of artificial intelligence, he noted that while artificial intelligence represents an impressive technological achievement, it cannot fully replace the human brain or the creative capacity of scientists. He concluded by stressing the need for governments and societies to continue supporting science, scientific research and innovation for the benefit of future generations.
