PABSEC Observation Delegation of the Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Bulgaria, Sofia, 19 April 2026
On 19 April 2026, a PABSEC Delegation took part in the international observation mission for the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Bulgaria.
The PABSEC delegation was composed of: Mr. Irakli Mezurnishvili, Head of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation, Ms. Briseida Cakerri, Head of the PABSEC Albanian Delegation, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, Ms. Mirela Cela, Secretary of the PABSEC Albanian Delegation and Ms. Pavlina Lozanova, Adviser to the Secretary General-Press Secretary.
During its stay in Sofia, the delegation visited a number of polling stations across different districts of the capital in order to observe the voting process. The elections were conducted in a calm, orderly, and well-organized atmosphere. No irregularities or violations were observed by the delegation during the voting procedures.
The electoral threshold for entry into the National Assembly was set at 4 %. According to preliminary results, the political parties and coalitions obtained the following shares of the vote: “Progressive Bulgaria” – 44.7%; “GERB–SDS” – 13.4%; “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” – 12,7%; “Movement of rights and freedoms” – 6.8% and Revival – 4.2%. Voter turnout reached 51.1%.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation held a meeting with Petar Kanev, PABSEC Vice-President and Head of the PABSEC Bulgarian Delegation. During the meeting, the current PABSEC activities, as well as forthcoming initiatives and events to be organized within the framework of the Assembly, were discussed.
