PABSEC participation in the 81st Annual Meeting of UN ECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC), Geneva, 19-22 February 2019

The 81st meeting of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE ITC) was held in Geneva on 19-22 February 2019. At the meeting, the PABSEC International Secretariat was represented by Mrs. Natia Gaprindashvili, Secretary of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee.

One of the key topics on the agenda of the Meeting was the importance of using intelligent transport systems, digitalization and automation of transport, introduction of digital transport technologies and the significant potential in the development of unmanned motor vehicles.

The Committee adopted a resolution “Enhancing Cooperation, Harmonization and Integration in the Era of Transport Automation”, highlighting the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation of UNECE countries in ensuring transport automation. Also, the strategy of the UNECE Inland Transport Committee was adopted, reflecting the main activities of the organization for the period up to 2030.

On the side lines of the meeting, an exchange of views took place between the Secretaries General of the BSEC, the BSEC-URTA and the IRU (International Road Transport Union) on the need to unite the efforts of all structures involved in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation process to ensure the efficiency of transportation in the BSEC region.
