The Fifty-Second Meeting of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee, Kavala, 17-18 October 2018

The Fifty-Second Meeting of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee was held in Kavala, Greece, on 17-18 October 2018, upon the invitation of the Hellenic Parliament.

Mr. Markos Bolaris, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Michael Yemelianov, Chairman of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee and Head of the PABSEC Russian Delegation, Mr. Konstantinos Morfidis, Head of the PABSEC Hellenic Delegation, Mr. Sergei Goncharenko, Deputy Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, addressed the participants at the Opening Ceremony.

The Meeting was attended by the national delegations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine and chaired by Mr. Michael Yemelianov, Chairman of the Committee. Mrs. Dimitra Tsanakia, Mayor of Kavala also took part in the meeting.

Mr. Konstantinos Morfidis, Member of the Committee, presented the draft Report on “The Role of Trade Unions in Strengthening Economic Cooperation in the BSEC Region”. The Chairman of the Committee presented the draft Recommendation 165/2018 on the same subject.

The Legal and Political Affairs Committee discussed and approved the draft Report and the draft Recommendation 165/2018 on “The Role of Trade Unions in Strengthening Economic Cooperation in the BSEC Region”, that will be submitted to the consideration of the Fifty-Second Plenary Session of the Assembly, to be held in Yerevan. 

The Committee took note of the information presented by the Deputy Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation on the current activities of the BSEC. Mr. Hajiyev informed the participants about the Calendar of Events for 2019 Year.

The Fifty-Third Meeting of the Committee is scheduled for May 2019, in Georgia, and the main item on the Agenda will be “The Role of the Ombudsman in Strengthening the Democracy in the BSEC Member States”.
