Participation of the PABSEC Secretary General in 2025 International Transport Forum Summit, 21-23 May 2025, Leipzig, Germany
On 21-23 May 2025, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, together with a delegation of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat, took part in the annual International Transport Forum Summit in Leipzig (Germany), which was dedicated to the topic “Transport Resilience to Global Shocks” under the ITF Presidency of Chile.
The Summit was attended by transport ministers, business leaders, heads of international organizations, politicians, representatives of business associations and civil society, leading researchers, as well as representatives of local and regional authorities.
This year, participants will reflect and share perspectives on how to ensure the continuity of transport systems amidst disruptions such as natural disasters, pandemics, cyber-attacks, and geopolitical crises. Discussions were focused on policies for adapting to, mitigating and recovering from these shocks, with an emphasis on transforming systems into more sustainable and resilient networks.
In the framework of the Summit, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in a panel discussion on “Financing Cooperation for a Sustainable and Resilient Digital Middle Corridor” organized by the OECD, upon the invitation of Mr. Ashraf Bouali, Director of the Istanbul Centre of the OECD. In his speech, Mr. Hajiyev spoke about how the Middle Corridor can address various economic challenges, including conflict resolution in the Black Sea region.
At the end of the Summit the ITF Presidency moved to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, met with Mr. Ashraf Bouali, Director of the Istanbul Centre of the OECD, Mr. Fariz Aliyev, Head of Transport Policy Department at the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mr. Elsever Guliyev, National Coordinator in Transport at GIZ Azerbaijan, and discussed the future perspectives of transport development in the Black Sea and Caspian region.
The PABSEC Secretary General had conversation with Ambassador Lazar Comanescu, Secretary General of the BSEC PERMIS, regarding the present and future activities of the BSEC and PABSEC and the forthcoming PABSEC General Assembly in Baku on 17-19 June 2025.
