Working Visit of Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, to Bucharest, Romania, 12 September 2023

On 12 September 2023, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, paid a working visit to Bucharest, Romania and had meetings with the Presidents of the two Chambers of the Parliament of Romania and also, with the Rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest (USAMV). The Secretary General was accompanied by Mr. Daniel Dulca, Deputy Secretary General.

On 12 September 2023, the PABSEC Secretary General met with Mr. Alfred-Robert Simonis, Interim President of the Chamber of Deputies where he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have the meeting and noted the contribution of the PABSEC Romanian Delegations in strengthening the cooperation within the PABSEC. Mr. Hajiyev informed about the preparatory work of the PABSEC and its International Secretariat, for the 62nd PABSEC General Assembly, to be held under the Presidency of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in the autumn of 2023. He mentioned the existing conflicts in the Black Sea Region and underlined that it is necessary to bring peace and prosperity for its citizens and create proper conditions for the young generation, which is the main asset of our countries.

Mr. Alfred-Robert Simonis, Interim President of the Chamber of Deputies underlined Romania`s interest in enhancing the economic cooperation in the Black Sea Region, stressed the importance of the participation of the Parliament of Romania in the activities of the PABSEC and assured that the Romanian Parliament will continue to actively contribute to the activities of the Assembly.

Upon the instruction of the General Assembly, the PABSEC Secretary General awarded the Interim President of the Chamber of Deputies, with the PABSEC Medal of Honour, dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Assembly.

During the meeting with Mr. Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, President of the Senate of Romania, the Secretary General expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to have the meeting and noted the contribution of the PABSEC Romanian Delegations in strengthening the cooperation within the PABSEC. Mr. Hajiyev also informed about the preparatory work of the PABSEC and its International Secretariat, for the 62nd PABSEC General Assembly, to be held under the Presidency of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in the autumn of 2023.

Mr. Ciucă underlined that the economic cooperation in the Black Sea Region, has been deeply affected by the latest developments in the region and noted that Romania, a member country of the EU and NATO, has an important geographic position and plays an important role in the region. The President of the Senate underlined that Romania appreciates the fact that the assurance of a European perspective for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia will consolidate the economic cooperation around the Black Sea Region.

Other subjects of discussion with the PABSEC Secretary General referred to the achievements of this Parliamentary Assembly in its 30 years of existence as well as different aspects of its future activity. On this occasion, the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation handed over to the President of the Senate, the PABSEC Medal of Honour, dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Assembly. 

In the meetings with the presidents of the two chambers of the Parliament of Romania participated Mr. Daniel Constantin, Head of the PABSEC Romanian delegation, and Ms. Roberta Alma Anastase, Chairperson of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee, member of the PABSEC Romanian delegation.

During the meeting with the PABSEC Romanian delegation, the PABSEC Secretary General informed about the preparatory work for the autumn meetings of the PABSEC committees and the 62nd General Assembly under the Ukrainian PABSEC Presidency and discussed the organizational details of the scheduled events. It was noted that the Romanian delegation intends to continue its constructive work in the PABSEC in the name of strengthening cooperation in the region.

At the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest (USAMV), the PABSEC Secretary met with Mr. Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu, Rector of the Institution. During the meeting, the Secretary General was informed about important events in the history and activity of this prestigious agronomic institution in Romania. The PABSEC Secretary General thanked the Rector for his warm hospitality and invited him to the Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States, scheduled to take place this autumn, in Istanbul.
