62nd Meeting of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy, Zonguldak (Türkiye), 27-28 April 2024

The 62nd Meeting of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy was held in Zonguldak (Türkiye) on 27-28 April 2024 upon the invitation of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

The Meeting was attended by national delegations from Albania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Greece, the Republic of Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat and members of the PABSEC International Secretariat.

At the opening ceremony, the participants of the meeting were addressed by Mr. Fatih Dönmez, PABSEC Vice-President, Head of the PABSEC Turkish delegation, Mr. Osman Hacibektasoglu, Governor of Zonguldak, and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General.

The Committee elected Mr. Oleksandr Marikovskyi, member of the PABSEC Ukrainian delegation, to the post of Chairman of the PABSEC Committee on Economic and Development Policy for a period of two years. The Committee also elected Mr. Victor Spinu, member of the PABSEC Moldovan delegation, to the post of Vice-Chair of the Committee for a period of two years.

The Committee discussed the draft Report and draft Recommendation 196/2024 “Cooperation among the BSEC Member States in Energy Trading”, which will be submitted for consideration to the 63rd Plenary Session of the General Assembly.

The Committee took note of the information on the activities of the BSEC Organization presented by Ambassador Ashot Kocharian, Executive Manager of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat, and Mr. Alexey Nistrean, Executive Director of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat.

The next 63rd meeting of the Committee will take place in autumn 2024. It was proposed to discuss the topic “Transport infrastructure as a means of development in the BSEC Member States” as the main issue. It was decided that the Rapporteur will be a member of the PABSEC Serbian delegation.

The Members of the Committee visited the gas production plant of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation in Filyos and got acquainted with the history of its establishment. The Committee members also were informed about the process of extracting natural gas from the seabed and transporting it through gas pipelines.
