The Thirty Fourth Meeting of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee was held in Chisinau on 17-18 March 2010. The main topic of the agenda was “Food Security in the BSEC Member States” and the Rapporteur Mr. Svilen Kraychev, Head of the Bulgarian PABSEC Delegation.

The participants stressed that the BSEC region is not critically facing the problem of food security in comparison with some other parts of the world due to its geographical and economic advantages. At the same time, the global food crisis and world-wide processes certainly have had an impact on the Black Sea region that led to an increasing concern among BSEC member states about sustainability of food security. All the BSEC countries in a varying degree are confronted with the challenge of satisfying food demands and reducing poverty in the region and it is necessary for the BSEC member states to take concrete and long-term measures to ensure safe, high-quality and healthy food.

The Thirty-Fifth Meeting of the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee will have as main subject on the agenda the issue of “The Condition of the Marine Environment in the Black Sea Region” and the Rapporteur on this subject will be Mr. Konstantinos TSIARAS, Member of the Committee (Greece).
