The Thirty-Third Meeting of the Committee was held in Thessaloniki on 21 October 2009. The members discussed a Draft Report and Draft Recommendation on “Water resources management in the Black Sea region”.                                    

During the discussions it was stressed that the PABSEC realizes that preservation and management of water resources is of utmost importance, as the contemporary environmental challenges urge all the countries to enhance cooperation aiming at sustainable development and implementation of the principles of Agenda 21 and Rio Declaration. PABSEC recognizes that the Black Sea region suffers from a number of environmental problems that include such negative trends, as pollution, biodiversity degradation, irrational land use and climate change. The Assembly, in particular, is aware that climate change has a deteriorative impact on water resources, natural hydrological processes and ecosystems.

The members of the Committee re-elected Mr. Gagik Minasyan (Armenia) as Chairman of the Committe and elected Mr. Giorgi Goguadze (Georgia) as Vice-Chairman of the Committee for a period of two years, till October 2011.
