Working visit of Mr. Kyrylo Tretiak, PABSEC Secretary General, to the European Parliament, Brussels, 19-21 June 2012
Within the framework of enhancing cooperation between the PABSEC and the European Parliament and with the aim to speed up the process of institutionalization of the PABSEC-EP relations, the PABSEC Secretary General Mr. Kyrylo Tretiak paid a working visit to the European Parliament on 19-21 June 2012. The Secretary General was accompanied by the Secretary of the PABSEC Legal and Political Affairs Committee Mrs. Natia Gaprindashvili.
The programme of the visit envisaged meetings with the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Mr. Jacek Protasiewicz, the MEPs representing main political groups, who at the same time are the members of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee and Mr. Klaus Welle, Secretary General of the European Parliament. The Meeting was also held with the members of the General Directorate on External Policy.
During the meetings the sides exchanged views on many problems in the region including growing importance of the Black Sea region for the EU and present stage and perspectives of cooperation between the PABSEC and the European Parliament. The importance of establishment of personal contacts between the MEPs and MPs from PABSEC and ensuring of regular contacts for enhancing cooperation between the PABSEC and the EP within the existing scheme was stressed. It was also underlined that a list of common topical issues could be drawn up to be taken up both by the EP and the PABSEC.
The PABSEC Secretary General invited the EP representatives to the PABSEC headquarters in Istanbul, as well to the 40th PABSEC Plenary Session to be held in Baky in November 2012. The EP representatives confirmed their willingness to further enhance the cooperation with the PABSEC at all levels and accepted the invitation to visit Istanbul.
